Arrival:
Please plan to arrive the day before your orientation begins.
Specific arrival information will be sent to each student
shortly before the program begins.
Departure:
This is up to you. You should stay until at least the day
after your final exam and longer if you would like to explore
the country before your return home.
Please consult the program calendar for
specific dates: Chile,
Argentina.
What to take:
Please contact your airline for luggage restrictions.
You will experience a wide range of climates, due to seasonal
changes and traveling, therefore you should bring clothes
appropriate for all seasons. You may also buy just about
any clothing item you might need in Argentina or Chile at
affordable prices. The general rule of thumb is to bring
half the clothes you think you need, but twice the money.
If you bring appliances such as hair dryers or electric
razors, you will likely need to purchase an electric converter
at home or abroad. In any case, do not attempt to use small
appliances without a converter or you will burn the sockets.
Large appliances, such as laptop computers, normally accept
a wide range of electrical currents and voltages. However,
please verify before usage.
Always try to travel light. Carry the minimum amount of
valuables necessary for your trip. Bring an ATM card, one
or two major credit cards, some cash and some travelers
checks. When you carry them on your person, you may wish
to conceal them in several places rather than putting them
all in one wallet or pouch. One of the safest places to
carry valuables is in a pouch or money belt worn under your
clothing.
If you wear glasses, pack an extra pair.
It is also advisable to bring a written prescription for
your glasses. Bring them and any medicines you need in your
carry-on luggage.
To avoid problems when passing through customs,
keep medicines in their original, labeled containers. Bring
copies of your prescriptions and the generic names for the
drugs. If a medication is unusual or contains narcotics,
carry a letter from your doctor attesting to your need to
take the drug. If you have any doubt about the legality
of carrying a certain drug into a country, consult the embassy
or consulate of that country first.
You may want to bring a photo album to share
with your new friends and family.
What to leave behind:
Do not take anything that you would hate to lose. You should
leave at home: ·
Valuable or expensive-looking jewelry,
Irreplaceable family objects,
All unnecessary credit cards,
Social Security card, library cards,
and similar items he/she may routinely carry in their wallet.
You should leave a copy of your itinerary with family or
friends at home in case they need to contact you in an emergency.
A Few Things to Bring AND Leave Behind
You should make two photocopies of your passport identification
page, airline tickets, driver's license and the credit cards
that you plan to bring with you. Leave one photocopy of
this data with your family at home; you should pack the
other in a place separate place from where you will carry
your original documents.
